I finally added interests to my user profile.  I'm not sure why I put it off for so long.  Possibly the geekiest thing included was McGurk Mysteries, which are a young adult series by Edmund Wallace Hildick that I adore(d).  I was very surprised that two other LJ denizens also listed them in their interests.  I haven't friended either of them yet, but I'm thinking about seeing if they'd be interested.
