If he didn't have one he couldn't have kids and people would expect him to be a big playboy, which I don't think is him. I don't know if Ginny would go along or not, but her doing so is the only way we get the epilogue but not the OBHWF happy way. Her hexing Hermione might have been more realistic, but I think she'd ultimately be happy that she gets to be Mrs. Potter, no matter what the truth behind that is.
