marie_j_granger A little fic to help me process everything from last week. Also, Hello! I haven't posted here in three years. I'll update you all (however few may still be out there) on my life another day.
Hermione Granger-Potter was furious. "I can't believe it, Harry."
"I know, Hermione." He stroked her hand and let her vent.
"How? How could they have done it? How could the Wizengamot have elected Cuthbert Mockridge as the next Minister for Magic? He's a racist, species-ist, sexist, homophobic nightmare!"
"I know, Hermione. And you know that neither Neville nor I voted for him."
"I know you didn't, Harry, but..." she burst into tears. "When I compare him to Orabella Nuttley, she was so much more qualified. She wasn't perfect, but I was so looking forward to having more progressive policies like we had under Kingsley. Why did he have to retire?"
"I don't know, Hermione." Harry hugged her. "And you know the director of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement releasing some of her inter-departmental memos right before the vote didn't help matters."
"No, it didn't," Hermione answered bitterly. "What are we going to do now, Harry? That horrible man is going to be in charge of the British Wizarding World for the foreseeable future."
"We'll do the only thing we can do, love. We'll move forward. We'll love each other and our friends. We'll work for the goodness that still exists in the world. We'll be okay, I promise."
Hermione sighed and hugged him back. "I suppose you're right, Harry. Thank you." She was filled with a new sense of purpose at the thought that perhaps things were not as dire as she had thought. "And if he's too awful, he won't be able to stay in power too long."
